What is bringing you closer to Jesus this season?
This question is personal and can be answered in so many different ways, but I think it’s important to ask. It’s easy to fall into a funk, to find ourselves in a state of merely surviving, and to forget the spiritual inspirations around us. We often put on blinders and charge full steam ahead without realizing the work God is doing in our lives and without stopping to be with him. This question should stop you in your tracks. Are you getting closer with Jesus? Or does he seem further away than ever?
The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is the perfect time to just stop. Find time to sit in silence with this question. If there is something that’s bringing you closer to Jesus then stop and thank Him for it. It’s a true grace to be in constant growth with him and to recognize these gifts. If however, you find you’re not growing closer maybe it’s time to redirect your steps.
Advent is the perfect time to create a fresh start. There is no better season to let your spirit stir. It’s one of the busiest times of the year but you are allowed to slow down and to give your spiritual well-being higher priority. You are allowed to remove yourself from the consumerism-based Christmas that society has created and find yourself in peaceful admiration of the true reason behind Christmas. Jesus wants you to just be with him.
Invite him into your homes, into your holiday spirit, and into your hearts. Let him bring peace and joy to your families. We are celebrating the birth of our Savior! He has come to redeem the world, and that is the best gift any of us have ever received. How can we not be overcome with joy?
My challenge for you this Advent season is to spend at least 5 minutes a day in prayer, spiritual reading, or quiet reflection. The St. Andrew Novena starts today, and it’s the perfect little prayer to get you started!
“Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most Pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, o my God, to hear my prayers and grant my desires through the merits of our Savior Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother. Amen.”
So what is bringing you closer to Jesus this season? Let me know below! Next week, I’ll be sharing what’s bringing me closer to Jesus and how it’s been the biggest blessing in my life.
Praying for you all, always <3
